Week 5: Day 26: 1,587 words in one session today. It was a good time. I wanted to get in a second session, but it didn’t work out. I know that I’m being repetitive in the way that I am describing certain things and it’s driving me nuts but it’ll all get sorted in the edits. I’ve got to let it go and keep moving forward if I’m going to finish this! Day 27: 1,309 words this morning. I’m taking a lot of time outs to make notes on changes to the book's direction that I want to make and character/setting developments. I’m hoping time spent now will help in the revision stage, though it’s lowering my word counts. (Normally I wouldn’t care, but this is NANO!) - - Got in two more sessions after that one and wracked up a total of 3,712 for the day. I’m happy to have gotten in this extra as my husband is out of town the next few days so I’ll have no back up with the kids. Four scenes until the novel is finished and I’ll think I’ll hit 50,000 and finish the project just in time. Day 28: Midway through my morning writing session Dabble informed me that I’d hit 50,000 words! I had a little seat dance and then got back to work. With a baby napping upstairs and one older kiddo home sick from school today, I’ve gotta get while the getting’s good. My goal is to finish the first draft and there’s no stopping me, now! Day 29: Nothing really went right around my house today, so I didn’t get a chance to write until 9 P.M. But I get in 2,238 words nonetheless. Not the most fun but I’m on a downhill slide, almost to the climax, so it’s flowing decently. Day 30: This is it! Last day! I have to finish this sucker today! Morning session was strange. At one point I was so indecisive about a thought that occurred to me that I almost wrote alternate versions to two scenes. I decided against this. But then, I wound up writing two different scenes simultaneously, jumping back and forth as thoughts flitted through my head. It was productive chaos. I decided that I needed to put my main character through one more nasty trial before the finale and since it was a scene I hadn’t prepped, it was messy. Last day of Nanowrimo and I’m sitting here researching how to escape from shackles. LOL! What? How do you spend your Friday morning? - - So, I’m calling it at 55,565 words for Nanowrimo this year. The book isn’t finished, but I can’t force any more tonight. I’ll continue into December until the draft is done. I’m so glad I did this this year. It was a challenge, but it really jumpstarted me and got my good habits going again. Now, I just need to keep it up! Technology that Helped this Week:
My birthday was December 2nd and my family got me a Rocketbook notebook. I ended up getting the gift a week early so I was able to try it out to take some notes while I was working (without having to switch documents on the computer) and also while I was away from my desk. I then easily scanned them into my file on Evernote and everything was organized right where I needed it. I even took some notes for another project. It's working wonderfully so far.
