What I Liked:
  • This collection had great variety. Poetry, short stories, and even a Shakespearean play. I think it would be a great book to pick up and flip through no matter what mood you happened to be in at the time.
  • There were some amazing stories in here. I was very impressed with several.

What I Didn’t Like:
  • There were a lot of funky formatting issues in my copy. Those could very well have been worked out by now, or may not be present in all copies. I’m giving the collection four stars on the assumption that those issues have been fixed.

Would I Recommend and to Whom:
Some of the stories in this collection didn’t really do it for me. But, there were several that forced me to sit up and take notice. I would recommend to fans of eclectic short fiction.

Favorites:
  • E.C. Jarvis  - “Mortal Guides”
    • I thought this had cute and sweet qualities despite the sadness and morbidity also there. It was a story that was confident but didn’t take itself too seriously.
  • A.M. Rycroft – “Hair”
    • I couldn’t help giving an evil cackle at this one.
  • Wendy Strain – “Dawn’s Light”
    • I would read the heck out a novel set in this world. A quick, yet still moving love story.
  • David Wiley – “The Portentous Passenger”
    • Thrilling, futuristic tale of doing the right thing despite personal risk.
  • Katheryn J. Avila - “Patterns”
    • Creative and well executed. I want to know so much more about it all and yet, I’m not unsatisfied.
