Things look a little different here at tsdickerson.com. I needed to make a decision about the web hosting for my site this year and I chose a different direction. I think direction has been a bit of a theme in my life lately. I was heading in a certain direction pre-Covid, then for a couple of years I got swirled around like a compass over a magnet. And as I emerged from the strange years, I found myself facing in a different direction than I had previously been headed.
For a while, that’s what I had to do. Move forward, survive, figure things out. But I’m trying to move more purposefully from here on out. I’m trying to make a map for myself and focus on following it. Perhaps more importantly, I’m trying to learn how to rewrite the map when a path is blocked. To reroute and keep going instead of scrapping the whole thing.
I found a quote mistakenly attributed to Teddy Roosevelt. It was in his autobiography and he attributed the words to Squire Bill Widener.
“Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.”Squire Bill Widener
I’m trying to embrace that mindset. To take baby steps if that’s all I can manage. To inch forward if I don’t have miles. To give two minutes where I wish I had an hour, because two may be less than sixty but it’s far better than none. I want to spend 2023 marveling at tiny bits of progress and treating them with the same respect I’ve given to long strides.
I’ll be working on transferring some of my past blog posts to this new home gradually. I’ve got some plans – a new direction. But announcing them is not part of this baby step. For now, I’ll just say, “Hi, again!” I hope your new year is off to a great start even if it’s measured in inches and minutes.
